Akian's Troubled Days

Bullying becomes even more distressing when the bullying comes from adults. Children with Autism are often very rule oriented. Can you imagine having your teacher, the rule maker at the school, bullying a child? It would be torture for anyone. Or what about the children who cannot speak? How do they tell their parents that they are not being respected?

A recent huge event that happened, where a father wired his autistic son, shows how some horrible teachers took advantage of his son’s disability. They torment him.

I can hardly watch this, and cannot imagine the pain it caused this little boy. Adults, especially teachers, need to be the safe haven for children, especially those with special needs.

  1. Rachel, that video is a real "eye opener". I imagine any teacher who has viewed that video has taken a moment to reflect on if they have ever said anything offensive to a child in their classroom. It made me think about how in the future it could be possible for anything I say in the school setting to be recorded. I noticed it has over four million views. I think this video sent out a very important message, and I hope those who watch this video (teachers or anyone else) will take a moment to think about how they would feel if they were in this father's shoes. Thanks for sharing.

  2. I 100% agree. As soon as I saw this I remembered what one of my old professors (wayyy back in freshman year) told me. Always teach like someone is watching. Do't do anything you wouldn't do if there wasn't a principal, parents, or friend in the room. It's good advice to live by because you are always on your game then.
